Table Mountain Cableway Celebrates Successful and Busy Festive Season with Record Number of Visitors in Cape Town

The Table Mountain Aerial Cableway Company (TMACC) recently shared their thoughts on the bustling holiday season in December 2024.

The festive period saw a steady stream of visitors flocking to Cape Town’s iconic landmark, with many taking in the breathtaking panoramic views from the top of Table Mountain.

A Season Filled with Smiles and Stunning Views

Selma Hercules, the Executive Director of the Table Mountain Cableway, expressed her gratitude, stating that the cableway saw “countless smiling faces and happy families” during the busy holiday season.

For many tourists, Table Mountain has always been a must-see attraction when visiting Cape Town, and this season was no different.

Despite not reaching pre-pandemic visitor numbers, the mountain remains a top destination for both first-time and returning visitors.

Team Effort for a Smooth and Safe Experience

Hercules also emphasized the importance of teamwork in ensuring that visitors were safe, comfortable, and well-cared for throughout their visit.

She extended thanks to the staff members who worked tirelessly to assist guests, from greeting them at the cableway station to providing support in areas like food, beverages, technical systems, and traffic management.

It’s clear that providing a seamless experience for visitors is a priority for the team.

Free Shuttle Service: A Convenient and Popular Addition

One of the standout features this season was the free shuttle service, which proved to be a big hit with visitors.

The shuttle runs regularly between the Lower Tafelberg Road parking area and the Lower Station, providing a convenient way for visitors to access the cableway without the hassle of parking along Tafelberg Road.

The extended operating hours of the cableway made the shuttle service especially useful during the busy holiday period.

Hot Weather and Strong Winds: A Reminder for Visitors

While the weather mostly cooperated with the busy season, the hot temperatures did pose challenges for some hikers and visitors.

Hercules advised visitors to dress appropriately, stay hydrated, and always be prepared for any sudden changes in weather when visiting the mountain.

Despite the heat, the cableway was able to operate smoothly, with minimal disruptions due to strong winds.

Thank You for a Wonderful Holiday Season

As the school holidays come to an end, Hercules expressed gratitude for all the visitors who made the trip to Table Mountain during December.

Whether it was their first time or a return visit, she welcomed everyone with open arms, reminding them that the mountain is ready to welcome guests year-round.

“Our mountain stands ready to welcome you throughout the year,” she said.
