Sydney Woolworths shooting wounds man’s leg

A armed guy was shot in the leg by police as they sought to detain him outside a Woolworths in a Sydney suburb.

A 26-year-old guy was allegedly assaulting two ladies with a knife at the Woolworths on Bunnerong Road in Matraville in the city’s eastern suburbs around 4.30 p.m.

Officers stopped the man in a neighboring parking lot, where he allegedly threatened them with the knife. Four patrol cars were dispatched to the location.

A man with a stable condition was taken to St. Vincent’s Hospital (pictured)

Officers fired a Taser at the man before shooting him in the thigh. He was treated by paramedics at the site before being transferred to St. Vincent’s Hospital in a stable condition.

Now, a critical incident team composed of officers from the Inner West Police Area Command will investigate the incident, including the discharge of a police handgun.

This investigation will be reviewed independently.
