The drama unfolded when 28-year-old Zachary Hocking took a £100,000 McLaren 570GT V8 out for a drive and pushed it far beyond the limits.
Instead of sticking to the 30mph speed restriction, he raced through the area at an average of 91mph, nearly triple the legal limit.
It wasn’t long before he lost control of the supercar, and the vehicle veered off the road, slamming into the side of a house with immense force.

Hocking and his passenger—a man in his 20s—suffered serious injuries.

Amazingly, the people inside the house escaped unharmed, even though the flames scorched the walls and left the garden trees blackened.
Photos later revealed the heart-stopping aftermath: twisted metal, collapsed bricks, and what was once a sleek supercar now reduced to an unrecognisable heap of charred debris.
Courtroom Outcomes After a Life-Changing Crash
The investigation that followed was both complex and lengthy, involving detailed forensic work and persistent efforts by the Road Policing Unit.
When the case reached Preston Crown Court, Hocking admitted causing serious injury by dangerous driving.
His sentence reflected the gravity of his actions: 28 months in jail, along with a 74-month driving ban.
To ever get behind the wheel again, he will need to undergo an extended retest—no small task for someone whose recklessness left such destruction in its wake.

Inspector Greg Laidlow voiced the frustration and disbelief felt by investigators.
He described Hocking’s behaviour as “extremely reckless and selfish,” emphasising how fortunate it was that no lives were lost.
