Super Eagles stars, Samuel Kalu and William Troost-Ekong, out of Brentford clash

Samuel Kalu and William Troost-Ekong, both of the Super Eagles, have been ruled out of Watford’s match against Brentford at Vicarage Road on Saturday.

Watford’s chances of avoiding relegation were dealt another blow when Hornets coach Roy Hodgson stated that attacker Cucho Hernandez had suffered a hamstring injury that could have terminated his season.

Kalu has an ankle issue, while Troost-Ekong has a little hamstring strain, according to the former England coach speaking ahead of the match.

“We’ve had a few of minor ones.”

But not from those who have been playing on a regular basis. Samuel Kalu, who was with us previously, has sustained an ankle injury.

“Willy Ekong is dealing with a minor hamstring issue. We don’t believe it’s serious, but it’s too soon to risk him in this game,” Hodgson stated in his pre-match press conference on Friday.

“Francisco Sierralta, on the other hand, has a calf muscle problem that has kept him out of training this week, but I don’t think it’ll keep him out for long,” he said.

It’s effectively eliminated those four guys from contention for a spot this weekend.

Hernandez’s name, of course, will be on everyone’s lips because he’s been playing and scoring goals in the last few games. That’s something I’m not familiar with. It’s not going to hinder my game preparation in any sense.”

Since arriving from Ligue 1 club Bordeaux, Kalu has made two substitute appearances — against Arsenal and Wolverhampton Wanderers. Both games resulted in losses.

Troost-Ekong, on the other hand, has made 16 Premier League appearances for the club, his most recent coming against Tottenham Hotspur on January 1.
