Stephen A. Smith Criticizes America’s Two-Party System and Hints at Possible Presidential Run in Exclusive Interview

Stephen A. Smith, the ESPN personality known for his outspoken commentary, has sparked interest by hinting at the possibility of running for president.

In an exclusive interview with DailyMail.com, Smith expressed frustration with the U.S. political system and said he might be driven to run if things don’t change.

Frustration With the Two-Party System

Smith, who has previously denied any interest in a political career, opened up about his growing disillusionment with the American political landscape.

He criticized the “binary” two-party system, where voters are forced to choose between Democrats and Republicans, describing it as a “joke.”

“I think our system sucks,” Smith said candidly.

“The binary system, where we have to choose between the Democrats and the Republicans, is a joke.

It dissuades most people from wanting to get involved in politics.”

Smith’s Potential Presidential Run

Though he has claimed before that he has no desire to run for president, Smith admitted that if he had a “legitimate, bona fide shot to win,” he would consider it.

On his show, he explained that he believes significant changes are necessary to bring the country back to where it should be.

Smith even went so far as to claim that he could beat every candidate mentioned in a recent poll.

“I’d beat all of them,” he said confidently, referencing figures like Kamala Harris, Pete Buttigieg, and Tim Walz.

Poll Numbers and the Growing Buzz

Smith’s comments come after a national poll from John McLaughlin, former chief pollster for Trump, found that Smith polled at two percent—more than candidates like Beto O’Rourke and Illinois Governor JB Pritzker.

While the poll’s results may seem modest, Smith’s popularity with voters continues to grow.

No Plans to Run Just Yet

Despite the growing buzz, Smith clarified that he does not currently plan to run for president.

He emphasized that his financial situation makes the idea of running less appealing, given that the President’s salary is significantly lower than his current earnings.

“I don’t believe my pockets are deep enough to ignore the financial strain that running could put on me,” Smith explained, noting that he earns more than the president’s $400,000 annual salary.

However, he added that if he were confident in his ability to win, he would consider it.

Political Leaders Weigh In

Smith’s potential political aspirations have even caught the attention of key figures in Washington.

House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries acknowledged that there is “a lot to like” about Smith, showing that the idea of a political run is being taken seriously by some.

As Smith continues to explore this possibility, only time will tell if his frustration with the current system will push him to take the plunge into politics.
