Spanish Couple Xavi Caballol and Alba Serch Share Their Terrifying Ultralight Aircraft Crash Experience in Girona and Discuss the Impact on Their Lives

On October 19, 2024, a life-altering tragedy struck Spanish entrepreneur Xavi Caballol and his partner, Alba Serch, during a routine flight in an ultralight aircraft.

What was meant to be a thrilling experience turned into a nightmare when the engine of Xavi’s private aircraft stalled mid-air.

As the engine failed during a maneuver at Viladamat Aerodrome in Girona, the couple plummeted from a height of 150 feet, crashing to the ground.

Injuries and the Road to Rehabilitation

The couple sustained devastating injuries in the crash.

Xavi, 49, suffered a broken vertebra and a skull fracture, which left part of his face immobilized.

Alba also endured broken bones. Despite their severe injuries, the couple is now focused on recovery.

Both are in wheelchairs, but they are working hard in physiotherapy to regain their mobility.

Their path to rehabilitation is long and difficult, but they are determined to rebuild their lives.

Sharing Their Experience to Prevent Future Accidents

Although the accident was traumatic for them, Xavi and Alba made the courageous decision to share the video of the crash with the public.

Xavi explained that their goal in publishing the footage was to raise awareness and prevent future tragedies.

“The video of the accident that has changed our lives… We decided to share it despite how hard it is for us,” Xavi shared.

“They tell us that ultralight aviation is very safe, but from experience, I can tell you that it’s not.”

A Changed Perspective on Life

Prior to the crash, Xavi and Alba were well-known for flaunting their luxury lifestyle on social media, with a focus on fast cars and glamorous destinations.

However, the accident has significantly changed their outlook on life.

Xavi reflected on how their former self-centered mindset has evolved.

“We were very selfish and focused on ourselves, but this experience has made us empathize more with others and awakened in us a desire to help,” he said.

Moving Forward with Gratitude

Xavi, who had been a pilot with a flying license, shared his determination to never fly again, despite his experience and passion for aviation. “I will never fly again,” he said.

“Even though I have my pilot’s license, I will never take to the skies again.”

Despite their ordeal, the couple remains grateful for the second chance they’ve been given.

“We are forever grateful for this second chance,” Xavi concluded, hopeful that their story will help others and raise awareness about the dangers of ultralight aviation.
