South Africa’s Fuel Price Reduction – See New Prices

The decreased fuel rates to start on Wednesday were announced on Saturday by Gwede Mantashe, minister of mineral resources and energy. One of the contributing factors to the lower fuel price is the decrease in Brent Crude oil.

Leaded and unleaded petrol, both 93 and 95 unleaded are decreasing by R1.32. Currently, 93 unleaded costs R26.31 per litre and 95 unleaded costs R26.74 per litre for drivers in the interior.

Current fuel costs for coastal drivers are R25.66 per litre for 93 unleaded and R26.09 per litre for 95 unleaded.

For inland drivers, diesel will cost 88 cents less per litre than it does now, at R25.40 per litre. Drivers on the coast may presently fill up for R24.75.

Paraffin used for lighting is also declining, by R1.44 per litre.

The country’s fuel prices, which are adjusted on a monthly basis, are informed by international and local factors, explained Mantashe.

“The average Brent Crude oil price decreased from $115.77 per barrel to $105 per barrel during the period under review. The main contributing factors are less demand for crude oil due to recession concerns and a resurgence of Covid-19 in China,” said Mantashe.
