Nicaragua’s Sheynnis Palacios, 23, achieved a groundbreaking victory at the 72nd annual Miss Universe pageant in San Salvador, becoming the first delegate from Nicaragua to claim the prestigious title.

The event marked a series of historic firsts, including the participation of two transgender women, two mothers, and a plus-size individual.

The victory ceremony saw Sheynnis crowned by the previous year’s winner, USA’s R’Bonney Nola Gabriel.

Diverse Achievements and Contestants in the Spotlight

This year’s Miss Universe showcased diversity with contestants like Rikkie Kollé, Miss Netherlands, a 22-year-old LGBTQIA+ rights activist, and Marina Machete, 23, Miss Portugal, who works as cabin crew.

Furthermore, the pageant allowed mothers, married women, and divorcees to compete for the first time, resulting in Miss Colombia, Camila Avella, and Miss Guatemala, Michelle Cohn, being the first mothers to reach the finals.

Challenges and Triumphs on the Stage

Miss Nepal, Jane Dipika Garrett, broke barriers as the first plus-sized model to participate, although she was eliminated before the final round.

Additionally, Pakistan’s Erica Robin, the country’s first entry, wore a burkini in the swimsuit round but was also eliminated at the same stage.

Sheynnis Palacios’ Journey and Impact

Sheynnis, with a history of pageant success, clinched the Miss Universe title, impressing judges and audiences alike.

Advocating for mental health, she spoke passionately about her initiative, ‘Understand Your Mind,’ which focuses on emotional care.

With a degree in Mass Communications, Sheynnis aims to serve humanity by running a newsroom and producing content for international brands.
