Shane Lowry wasn’t holding back after a tough finish to his third round at The Masters.
The world No. 13 golfer had been in a good position, eyeing a solid two-under-par score as he approached the final holes, which would have put him just five shots off the lead.
But things quickly went south as he bogeyed both the 17th and 18th holes.
Lowry’s disappointment was palpable, and when it came time for the obligatory interview after the round, it was clear he wasn’t in the mood for questions—especially not about fellow golfer Rory McIlroy.
Lowry’s Short Fuse During Interview
As per the usual routine at The Masters, players are asked to speak with the media right after their rounds. But Lowry wasn’t having it.
When the interviewer mentioned McIlroy, who was leading by two shots going into the final day, Lowry’s frustration boiled over.
“No,” Lowry snapped, “I’m not going to stand here and talk about Rory for 10 minutes.
I’m trying to win the tournament as well.” His response was blunt, and his mood was clear.
“I’ve just had a bad finish, I’ve got a chance to win tomorrow, and I’m going to go hit some balls,” Lowry added, visibly annoyed.
A Call for More Time to Process
Lowry wasn’t done there. He went on to explain that the rushed interviews immediately after a round don’t give players enough time to collect their thoughts.
He suggested that just like tennis players, who are given a window of time before speaking with the media, golfers should have the same courtesy.
“I think I need half an hour now to sit there and gather my thoughts,” Lowry said.
“I can’t be coming to talk to you guys straightaway.
It shouldn’t be happening. I don’t agree with it.”
Walking Away to Focus on His Game
Clearly frustrated, Lowry ended the conversation by walking off, heading straight to the practice range to focus on his game ahead of the final round.
He even joked about saying something foolish during the interview, acknowledging that his anger might have gotten the best of him.
“I’m probably going to say something stupid.
I probably already have said something stupid because I’m pissed off right now,” Lowry admitted. “I’m just going to leave, OK?”
