Several injured in a road crash on the M4 Ruth First Freeway near La Lucia offramp

On Saturday morning, just after 11 a.m., multiple persons were injured in a major accident on the M4 Ruth First Freeway near the La Lucia offramp.

When ALS Paramedics Medical Services and Netcare911 got on the site, they discovered that a fully laden cab and a light motor vehicle had collided just before both vehicles off the road.

One victim, a woman in her twenties, suffered major injuries and was severely confined in her vehicle.

Advanced Life Support paramedics stabilized her on the spot, while the Jaws of Life and other hydraulic equipment were utilized to try to release her from the vehicle.

Once she was liberated, she was placed on specialized equipment and taken to a nearby Durban hospital for further treatment. Twelve others, who had slight to critical injuries, were stabilized on the scene before being transferred to a local Durban hospital for additional treatment.
