Sascha Bailey Reveals He Is Expecting a Child After Overcoming His Struggles with Gender Identity and Marriage in February 2025

Sascha Bailey, the 29-year-old son of famed photographer David Bailey, has announced he is expecting a child, a milestone that marks a significant moment in his life after a period of self-discovery and personal transformation.

Just two years ago, Sascha was contemplating transitioning to a woman during the breakdown of his marriage.

Now, after finding love with Lucy Brown, 34, a former assistant to Tommy Robinson, Sascha has embraced his identity as a man once again.

Sascha Reflects on His Past Struggles and the Decision to Stay Male

Sascha shared with MailOnline that his father, David Bailey, 87, was quietly pleased about the pregnancy, but in typical Bailey fashion, his response was understated.

Sascha explained that he had once considered transitioning but decided against it after meeting Lucy.

He reflected on how close he had come to making a permanent decision, saying, “It’s really something to have been thinking about closing this door forever two years ago.”

At one point, Sascha had registered as transgender while living in Japan, a decision he made to escape the trauma of his unhappy marriage to lawyer Mimi Nishikawa.

He had found himself immersed in a subculture known as “transmaxxing,” which involves men who believe their lives would be easier if they transitioned into women.

Sascha explained that he was prescribed hormone replacement therapy (HRT) after a brief consultation in a gender clinic in Nagoya, where he had convinced himself he was “born in the wrong body.”

The Painful Journey to Self-Discovery and the Role of Trauma

Sascha has been open about the difficult experiences that led him to question his gender identity.

He revealed that past trauma, including sexual abuse and a suicide attempt, had significantly impacted his sense of self.

He recalled his feelings of not fitting in with other men during his childhood, finding comfort in strong female characters like Ripley from Alien, who offered a sense of strength and difference from the men who had hurt him.

During his marriage to Mimi, Sascha decided to pursue transitioning, but things took an unexpected turn when Mimi suggested a contract.

She asked him to agree that, during his transition, he would give her most of his money while allowing her the freedom to be with anyone she wished. This bizarre request led Sascha to reevaluate his path.

What Is “Transmaxxing” and How Sascha Got Involved

“Transmaxxing” is a relatively new term within the gender spectrum, originating in internet chat rooms frequented by celibate young men.

The movement promotes the idea that transitioning to a woman will improve their lives by offering “female benefits,” such as escaping sexual rejection and enjoying financial perks like cheaper car insurance.

Sascha explained that this subculture is viewed as a way to “make themselves right for the situation” by taking away all emotional and internal conflicts.

Sascha initially embraced this mindset, but his journey took a different direction once he returned to England.

After preparing to begin his transition with hormone therapy, delays in securing his prescription gave him time to reconsider.

He met Lucy during this period, and her response to his plans was a turning point.

Instead of encouraging the transition, Lucy’s reaction made Sascha laugh and reconsider his course of action.

The Bailey Family Background and Sascha’s Upbringing

Sascha was born into a famous family, with his father being the iconic photographer David Bailey, known for his celebrity portraiture, and his mother, Catherine, a celebrated model.

Sascha grew up between London and the Bailey country estate in Devon, experiencing a privileged and bohemian lifestyle.

He fondly recalls the time spent with his siblings, Fenton and Paloma, and the many famous figures who visited their home.

He described his childhood as “fantastic” and spoke about the influence of his parents, both of whom were inspirational in their own rights.

Sascha reminisced about the eccentricities of his upbringing, like when Ronnie Wood playfully told him to tie people’s shoelaces together, or when Manolo Blahnik kicked him after he’d pulled someone to the ground at an event.

Sascha’s Early Career as a Model and His Relationship with Mimi

Sascha, who struggled with dyslexia, was privately educated at a specialist school before being signed by Storm Model Agency at the age of 16.

By then, he was already living with an older girlfriend, a rebellious phase that led him to pursue a career in modeling.

At 19, he met Mimi Nishikawa, a lawyer 20 years his senior, and the two quickly formed a bond.

Despite the age gap, Sascha was drawn to Mimi’s magnetic and charming personality, and their connection was immediate.

The relationship moved quickly, and within three months, Sascha and Mimi married in a small ceremony at Camden Register Office with only two witnesses.

While friends and family had reservations about their whirlwind romance, Sascha remained unfazed, noting that he and Mimi were both lonely and had found solace in one another.

Reflecting on His Relationship and Family Dynamics

Looking back, Sascha acknowledges the concerns of those around him but remains convinced that his decision to marry Mimi was right for him at the time.

He also recalls how his father, David, responded to the marriage with a laid-back attitude, saying, “Do whatever you want.”

Sascha shared that his father had married around the same age, so he understood the impulse to follow one’s heart, regardless of the opinions of others.
