Samir Nurkovic takes legal action against Royal AM over unpaid salaries as court orders MaMkhize to settle massive debt in South Africa

South African football has seen its fair share of off-the-field controversies, but few have been as drawn-out as Samir Nurkovic’s legal dispute with Royal AM owner Shauwn “MaMkhize” Mkhize.

The Serbian striker, who briefly joined Royal AM in 2022 before his contract was abruptly terminated, has been fighting to recover what he believes he is owed.

Now, with the case still unresolved and the debt growing due to interest, the battle continues.

FIFA’s Intervention and the R15 Million Owed

When Nurkovic took his case to FIFA, the governing body ruled in his favor, banning Royal AM from signing new players until they paid out his full two-year contract.

At the time, reports suggested that the club owed him around R12 million, but as the legal battle drags on, the amount has ballooned to over R15 million.

Despite FIFA’s ruling, Royal AM has yet to settle the outstanding amount.

Nurkovic, however, remains focused on his career and has left the legal process in the hands of his attorneys.

Speaking to the media, he acknowledged that legal disputes like these are often beyond a player’s control, emphasizing that his primary focus is on football.

MaMkhize’s Mounting Financial Woes

This is just one of several legal battles MaMkhize is currently entangled in.

The South African Revenue Service (SARS) recently ordered her to settle outstanding tax debts, which reportedly soared from R12.7 million to R37 million in a single day.

By 2025, this amount has grown to over R40 million, putting further financial strain on the businesswoman.

To make matters worse, MaMkhize’s recent attempt to challenge SARS in court was dismissed, leaving the tax authority in effective control of the club’s administration through curatorship.

Reports suggest that Royal AM tried to argue that since her son, Andile Mpisane, is officially listed as the club’s owner, the team should be immune from her personal tax woes.

However, the courts were not convinced.

Another Missed Deadline and More Trouble Ahead

If MaMkhize was hoping for a break, she didn’t get one.

This week, she reportedly missed yet another deadline to submit key tax-related documents to SARS, further complicating her legal troubles.

With the taxman keeping a close watch on her finances and a growing list of unsettled disputes, it seems like the pressure is mounting from all sides.

What’s Next for Nurkovic and MaMkhize?

For now, Nurkovic remains patient as his legal team continues to push for a resolution.

However, with Royal AM’s financial and legal troubles piling up, it remains to be seen how long this battle will continue before a final settlement is reached.
