Proactive Renewal Encouragement The Road Traffic Management Corporation (RTMC) is urging vehicle owners to proactively renew their vehicle licenses as more than a million of them are set to expire in September. The organization is emphasizing the importance of taking immediate action to avoid penalties.

High Number of Expiring Licenses Due to multiple extensions granted during the COVID-19 pandemic, a significant number of vehicle licenses now fall within the renewal period spanning from August to December. In September alone, a total of 1,049,412 motor vehicle licenses are set to expire, requiring renewal by the end of the month. However, the RTMC has established a 21-day grace period after the expiry date, allowing for renewals without additional costs. Subsequently, late renewals will incur arrears and penalties.

Reminder System To facilitate the renewal process, the RTMC has implemented an email and SMS reminder system for vehicle owners whose licenses are expiring each month. This proactive approach aims to keep vehicle owners informed about their renewal deadlines.

Update Contact Information Vehicle owners are encouraged to update their email and telephone contact details on the online portal (online.natis.gov.za) to ensure they receive timely reminders. By doing so, they can stay informed about their license renewal status and deadlines.

Online Renewal and Delivery Owners have the option to renew their licenses through the online portal and can expect delivery within three to five days. The RTMC is streamlining the process by sending email reminders with MVL1 forms. Vehicle owners can complete these forms online and make the necessary payments from the comfort of their homes. The renewed motor vehicle license will then be dispatched via courier within a short period.
