Republican State Representative Lucas Lanigan Faces Serious Domestic Violence Allegations After Allegedly Choking His Wife in Springvale, Maine

Maine Republican State Representative Lucas Lanigan, 45, faces serious allegations of domestic violence following an incident with his wife.

This case has drawn significant media attention, especially given his upcoming re-election bid.

Confrontation Leads to Alleged Assault

The altercation reportedly began on Friday afternoon when Catalina Lanigan, 43, confronted her husband Lucas and his alleged mistress.

The incident, which took place at Springvale Safe Storage, turned violent as the couple argued.

During the confrontation, Lanigan is accused of choking his wife for approximately 20 seconds.

Despite the physical attack, Catalina managed to escape and sought help, calling friends and later reporting the assault to local authorities.

Medical Examination and Arrest

After the alleged attack, Catalina was taken to Maine Medical Center in Portland, where medical professionals documented bruising around her neck and other signs consistent with physical trauma, including marks on her face, nose, and mouth.

Following this, an arrest warrant was issued for Lanigan, who turned himself in at York County Jail on Monday after returning from a business trip.

Political Fallout Amidst Re-election Bid

Lanigan, who is currently running for re-election against Democrat Patricia Kidder, faces increasing calls for his resignation from political peers.

House Democrats, including Speaker Rachel Talbot Ross, have issued a statement condemning his actions, urging him to step down for what they described as a severe breach of public trust.

In a public address, Ross emphasized the gravity of the allegations, stating that Lanigan had failed the standards of integrity and accountability expected of public officials.

Calls for Resignation Meet Resistance

While Democrats have vocally demanded Lanigan’s resignation, some Republican leaders, such as House Republican Leader Billy Bob Faulkingham, have suggested waiting for the legal process to unfold before making a formal call.

The matter has sparked debate within the legislature, underscoring the intense scrutiny Lanigan faces as the investigation proceeds.

Upcoming Court Appearance

Lanigan’s next steps include a scheduled court appearance via Zoom on Wednesday at 1 pm.

His future in politics remains uncertain as legal and public pressures mount.
