Rebekah Vardy vs Coleen Rooney latest: WAGs husbands Jamie and Wayne in attendance today

The Vardys have left court early after former England star Wayne Rooney made a series of sensational allegations while giving evidence at the Wagatha Christie libel trial today. London’s High Court has heard –

– Wayne Rooney was asked by then England manager Roy Hodgson to speak to fellow footballer Jamie Vardy to ask his wife to ‘calm down’ during the Euro 2016 tournament. He told the High Court that England management feared Rebekah had ‘some kind of column in The Sun’;

– The ex-England captain described his conversation with Vardy about Rebekah as ‘awkward’, but admitted he didn’t know if Vardy had then spoken to his wife about her ‘media activities’;

– Rooney said that he was never really friends with Vardy off the football pitch. As Rooney was sworn into the witness box, his former teammate Jamie Vardy – who is accompanying Rebekah at her £3million libel trial for the first time today – stared at the laptop in front of him to avoid eye contact;

– In a statement outside the hearing, Jamie Vardy’s representatives blasted Rooney’s ‘nonsense’ claims, saying: ‘He must be confused because he never spoke to me about issues concerning Becky’s media work at Euro 2016’;

– Rooney also told how Rebekah allegedly spent so much time speaking to her husband on FaceTime during Euro 2016 preparations that it was almost like she was ‘almost there with the team’;

– He blasted the abuse directed at Rebekah and said he never wanted to be a part of the Wagatha Christie furore, which he called ‘really traumatic’ for Coleen. He said he’s ‘not big on social media’ and had only heard most of the information about the case this week;

– Rebekah’s agent Caroline Watt was allegedly set up to ‘take the blame’ for leaking stories from Coleen Rooney’s Instagram account. In return, Rebekah had agreed she would’ look after’ her agent and friend ‘behind the scenes’, the High Court has heard;

– Coleen’s ‘fake’ Instagram posts about gender selection in Mexico, the flooded basement story used to ‘snare’ suspect Rebekah Vardy, and her 2019 car crash have been released in court documents;

– Coleen was allegedly more ‘stressed’ about the newspaper leaks than Wayne Rooney’s arrest for drunkenness and swearing at Dulles Airport in early 2019;

– Rebekah ‘referred to Wayne Rooney’s cousin as his ‘chavvy sister’ in messages to PR agent Caroline Watt’;

– She gave a photographer access to her Instagram account so he could sell stories, the High Court has heard.

Jamie Vardy joins wife Rebekah Vardy at ‘Wagatha Christie’ trial

Coleen Rooney has accused Rebekah Vardy of leaking ‘false stories’ about her private life in October 2019 after she said she carried out a months-long ‘sting operation’.

Messages between Rebekah Vardy and her agent which have never been found were ‘manually deleted’, the High Court has heard.

Data expert Matthew Blackband was asked to explain the most likely explanation for the loss of WhatsApp messages exchanged by the pair in the days after Coleen Rooney’s Wagatha Christie post.

Coleen Rooney’s barrister David Sherborne asked investigator: ‘What is the most likely explanation for the loss or deletion of that data?’

Mr Blackband says: ‘Based on the information that’s been provided I would suggest it’s a manual deletion.’

Mr Blackband, who is Coleen’s expert witness in the case, was also asked if there was any evidence that Rebekah’s Instagram account was compromised. He said: ‘There’s no indicators of a compromise.’

Rebekah and Jamie Vardy did not return to court after a short break in the afternoon proceedings.

Vardy had accused ex-England captain Wayne Rooney of talking ‘nonsense’ while giving evidence at the £3million Wagatha Christie libel trial earlier.

Rooney told the High Court that he had ‘100%’ asked Vardy to tell Rebekah to ‘calm down’ because she was causing negative media coverage around the Euros 2016 tournament.

Rebekah Vardy allegedly referred to Wayne Rooney’s cousin as ‘Wayne’s chavvy sister’ in messages to her publicist Caroline Watt, the High Court heard.

Claire Rooney, who was said to be ‘close’ to the couple, said the pair appeared to suggest that she may be the source of leaks from Coleen’s private Instagram account.

In her written statement told how she had been provided with an extract of Rebekah’s WhatsApp messages with Ms Watt on February 11, 2019.

She said: ‘In that exchange they appear to be discussing the fact that someone else must also be selling stories on Coleen because a story had appeared in The Sun which they say they weren’t responsible for.

‘I can see that Caroline Watt suggests “It’s probably someone like Wayne’s chavvy sister”. Wayne doesn’t have a sister and so I assume that Caroline Watt is referring to me as Wayne’s cousin and because I still have the Rooney surname.

‘I have never met Caroline Watt in my life, nor have I ever spoken to her. I am not aware that Coleen has either. I can confirm that I have never leaked information about Coleen or Wayne, or anyone else for that matter, to the press.’

An expert instructed by Rebekah Vardy found it ‘surprising’ that there was an ‘absence’ of WhatsApp messages between her and agent Caroline Watt after the Wag tried to export messages from her device to her solicitors, the High Court was told.

Ian Henderson was asked a series of questions in court by Coleen Rooney’s barrister David Sherborne about Rebekah’s data, which the lawyer suggested had been ‘deleted’ or ‘lost’.

Mr Sherborne put it to the expert that he described the ‘absence of this data being caused by the uploading process’ as ‘somewhat surprising’, with Mr Henderson agreeing that he remembered saying that.

‘Clearly by surprised you’re saying that that is not what you would expect to have happened?’ Mr Sherborne added.

‘That is correct,’ Mr Henderson replied.
