SHOCKING: Prince Harry and Meghan present at the Invictus Games

Prince Harry and his wife Meghan made their first joint public appearance on this side of the Atlantic on Friday, two years after leaving the royal family and migrating to North America.

The Sussexes attended an Invictus Games evening reception in The Hague, the Netherlands, a day after a visit with his grandmother, Queen Elizabeth II, in the United Kingdom on Thursday.

Harry, who served in the British army in Afghanistan, is the founder of the Saturday event for handicapped war veterans.

At Windsor Castle on Thursday, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex met Queen Elizabeth, who will celebrate her 96th birthday in a few days.

British tabloids chastised Harry, 37, and his wife, 40, for skipping Prince Philip’s memorial service.

Philip died last April, two weeks shy of his 100th birthday, after 73 years of marriage to the queen.

Since their choice to leave the royal family, Harry and Meghan had not visited the UK together.

The Invictus Games, which have been postponed twice due to the coronavirus pandemic, are attracting more than 500 athletes from 20 countries.

The Ukrainian squad arrived to thunderous acclaim just before the prince arrived.

The team of 19 people from war-torn Ukraine traveled in the Netherlands to participate, but one member was missing since he was imprisoned in Mariupol, Ukraine’s besieged city.

A spokesman for the team told AFP that the paramedic, Yuliia Paievska, also known as Taira, is “in danger of death right now.”

“She is the only woman on the team and was due to compete in archery and swimming,” the team said in a statement.

On Saturday, the royal couple will attend the opening ceremony of the games, with Prince Harry due to deliver a speech.

The Invictus Games, which held their maiden edition in London in September 2014, have been a recurring subject in Harry and Meghan’s relationship.

The prince made his first public appearance with the American ex-actress during the 2017 games. They were in Sydney the next year, just a few days after she announced she was pregnant.

Harry and his wife left their lives as frontline royals two years ago, moving to Canada and then California.

The UK government withdrew his taxpayer-funded protection on visits back to the UK as a result of their decision, a decision that Harry is contesting in court.

The queen, who has been in poor health, will celebrate her 70th year on the throne in June with a series of public ceremonies.

The Invictus Games will end on 22 April.
