What started as a bold military move has quickly turned into a heated political battle in Washington.
Over the weekend, President Donald Trump authorized a major strike on Iran’s nuclear facilities, and the fallout has been just as explosive in Congress as it was overseas.
Trump ordered a dozen 30,000-pound “bunker buster” bombs to take out Iran’s top three nuclear sites—a decision he hailed as a “spectacular success” during a late-night address from the White House.
But while he celebrated the operation as a win for national security, his critics were already preparing to challenge him at home.
AOC Slams Trump’s Airstrike and Calls for Impeachment
Congresswoman Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez wasted no time making her stance clear.
She blasted Trump’s decision to act without Congressional approval, calling it “a grave violation of the Constitution and War Powers.”
In her own words, “The president’s disastrous decision to bomb Iran without authorization has risked plunging us into a war that could last for generations.”
To her, the decision wasn’t just reckless—it was impeachable.
Trump Fires Back With Insults and Dismisses Criticism
Not one to let criticism go unanswered, Trump came out swinging.
Taking to his social media platform and addressing the nation, he told AOC to “go ahead and try impeaching me, again,” adding a sarcastic, “make my day!”
He didn’t stop there.
Trump insulted Ocasio-Cortez’s intelligence, calling her “one of the dumbest people in Congress” and suggesting she wasn’t qualified to hold office based on “test scores” he claims she wouldn’t want released.
He also accused her of being unable to handle America’s resurgence under his leadership, jabbing that “her party isn’t used to winning.”
Trump’s Attack Gets Personal and Local
Trump didn’t just keep it political—he made it personal and geographical.
He told AOC to “go back home to Queens,” pointing out that he also grew up there, and criticized her for allegedly neglecting her district.
He didn’t stop with her, either.
Trump threw shade at other progressive lawmakers, saying that even though he thinks AOC lacks qualifications, she’s still “smarter than Jasmine Crockett and Ilhan Omar.”
As for her political future, Trump mocked her ambitions and warned she might not even survive her own primary.
He also took a swipe at Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer, calling him “Cryin’ Chuck” and suggesting AOC’s challenge to his seat was laughable.
AOC Claps Back With Bronx Pride and Sharp Words
Ocasio-Cortez didn’t stay silent.
She responded on X (formerly Twitter), writing, “Mr. President, don’t take your anger out on me.
I’m just a silly girl.
Take it out on whoever convinced you to betray the American people by illegally bombing Iran.”
She then playfully reminded Trump of her Bronx roots, quipping, “I’m a Bronx girl.
You should know we can eat Queens boys for breakfast.
Respectfully.”
More Democrats Join the Impeachment Push
AOC wasn’t alone in her outrage.
Texas Representative Al Green took things a step further, announcing plans to officially introduce articles of impeachment against Trump on the House floor.
Green had previously voiced support for impeachment due to Trump’s support for Israel’s military campaign in Gaza, but the strike on Iran was the final straw.
Meanwhile, Illinois Democrat Sean Casten echoed the sentiment.
He posted online that regardless of the debate around Iran’s nuclear program, the president “has no authority to bomb a country that poses no imminent threat without Congress.”
According to Casten, that alone qualifies as an impeachable offense.
What Comes Next in the Fight Over Iran and Impeachment?
With Democrats pushing for Trump’s impeachment and Trump lashing out at his critics, the political climate is only getting hotter.
The president’s bold military move may have scored points with some voters, but it’s reignited a constitutional debate that could define the rest of his term.
All eyes are now on Congress.
Will they follow through with another impeachment attempt, or will this all become more fuel for the 2026 campaign trail?
Stay tuned.
