Details have emerged regarding the meeting between President Bola Tinubu and the Senate leadership, led by Senate President Godswill Akpabio.
The meeting, which took place at the Presidential Villa, was held to congratulate President Tinubu on his appointment as Chairman of the ECOWAS Authority of Heads of State and Government.
Nurturing and Sustaining Democracy
In a statement released by his spokesperson, President Tinubu emphasized the importance of nurturing and sustaining democracy for genuine progress and development in Nigeria and Africa as a whole.
He highlighted that Nigeria’s election of him as the chairperson of the 16 West African heads of government sent a strong signal to the world, particularly outside of Africa, that Nigeria is serious about democratic governance.
President Tinubu expressed gratitude for his election to chair the regional body and recognized it as a vote of confidence from fellow leaders.
He acknowledged that this additional responsibility places a greater burden on Nigeria for the benefit of Africa. Despite the challenges, he pledged to fulfill his responsibilities and not disappoint Nigerians.
Support from Senate
Senate President Akpabio congratulated President Tinubu on his accomplishment, highlighting the esteem in which his colleagues hold him.
He emphasized that the Senate and the entire National Assembly are committed to supporting the President in delivering on his mandate and realizing his vision for a more prosperous Nigeria.
