Adeniyi’s appointment was announced alongside the appointment of new service chiefs.
Background and Education
Adeniyi has served in the Nigeria Customs Service for over 30 years.
He holds a Bachelor of Science degree in International Relations from Obafemi Awolowo University, obtained in June 1987.
He also holds a Master of Arts degree in Communication Science from the Universitaire Svizzera D’Italiana (USI) – Lugano, Switzerland, obtained in November 2013.
Previous Roles and Achievements
Adeniyi has held several positions within the Nigeria Customs Service.
He served as the Commandant of the Nigeria Customs Command and Staff College in Gwagwalada, Abuja.
He also served as the National Public Relations Officer of Customs for the longest period, from June 2003 to May 2011.
Adeniyi received the Comptroller-General of Customs Award for his role in the seizure of $8,065,612 million cash at the Murtala Mohammed International Airport in January 2020.
Professional Affiliations and Honors
Adeniyi currently holds the position of Vice President of the Governing Council of the Nigerian Institute of Public Relations (NIPR).
He was honored with the National Honour of Member of the Order of the Federal Republic (MFR) by former President Muhammadu Buhari in October 2022.

Prior to his appointment as the acting Comptroller General, Adeniyi served as a Deputy Comptroller General of Customs.
