The accusations against Fox News host Pete Hegseth regarding an alleged sexual assault have resurfaced, shedding light on events from 2017.
According to a police report, the woman who made the claim, referred to as Jane Doe, suggested that something might have been slipped into her drink before Hegseth took her phone and physically blocked her from leaving his hotel room.
The 2017 Incident
Hegseth, a former National Guard officer, was under investigation for the alleged assault in 2017, but the case was closed without any charges being filed.
The incident is reported to have occurred at the Hyatt Regency Monterey Hotel and Spa in California, during the early hours of October 8, 2017, when Hegseth was reportedly intoxicated and allegedly groping multiple women at the hotel.
Jane Doe, then 30 years old, was on a business trip, having drinks with colleagues.
She recalls that her memories of the night became unclear after drinking champagne, and she found herself in a room with Hegseth.
According to the police report, she initially confronted him, expressing discomfort with the way he treated women, describing him as giving off a “creeper” vibe.
Confronting Hegseth
Jane Doe described a situation where Hegseth rubbed the legs of several women, including hers.
While she found his actions inappropriate, many others appeared to admire him, asking for pictures.
Eventually, she says she was taken to a different hotel room with Hegseth, where things quickly spiraled out of control.
She recalls arguing with him by the pool, and although she doesn’t remember much after that, she believes something was slipped into her drink that contributed to her hazy recollection.
The report states that she attempted to leave multiple times, but Hegseth allegedly took her phone and physically blocked the door.
She remembers him throwing a towel at her and asking if she was “okay” but doesn’t recall much else, including whether any sexual penetration occurred, though she believes she was assaulted.
Contradicting Accounts and Legal Aftermath
The next day, Jane Doe says an encounter with another man triggered her memory of what happened with Hegseth.
She went to a medical examiner and requested a rape kit on October 12.
The police report also describes an interaction between Hegseth and a hotel worker who witnessed a scene involving the two.
The worker described Hegseth as being “very drunk” and cursing at the staff, while Jane Doe appeared coherent and apologetic on his behalf.
In contrast, Hegseth told police that the encounter was consensual.
He admitted that both of them had stopped at times, saying they shouldn’t continue, but that they proceeded anyway.
He also mentioned that he ejaculated on her stomach, confirming some details of the interaction.
The Aftermath and Public Reaction
Hegseth’s attorney, Timothy Parlatore, defended him by stating that no charges were filed because the allegations were false.
He also admitted that Hegseth had paid Jane Doe to keep the incident quiet, fearing it could affect his career.
Parlatore argued that Jane Doe was the aggressor, a point the police did not support.
This report has surfaced amid Hegseth’s nomination by former President Donald Trump to become Secretary of Defense.
The nomination has drawn attention due to the nature of the allegations and Hegseth’s controversial public statements, including his views on women in combat roles.
Hegseth’s Personal Life and Controversies
Hegseth’s personal life has also attracted attention.
He is married to his third wife, Jennifer Rauchet, a producer at Fox News, after divorcing his second wife in 2017.
His past relationships, including a public affair with Rauchet while still married, have added to the scrutiny surrounding his nomination.
Despite the ongoing controversies, Trump has stood by Hegseth, with communications director Steven Cheung reiterating that Hegseth denies all accusations.
The situation continues to unfold as Hegseth’s confirmation remains uncertain.
