Percy Tau leaves Qatar SC as clubs in South Africa and North Africa race to secure his next move

It’s the end of a brief chapter for South African footballer Percy Tau in the Middle East.

The 30-year-old winger has officially parted ways with Qatar SC, setting off a flurry of interest from clubs both at home and abroad.

His departure has put many teams on high alert as they eye a possible signing ahead of the new season.

A Stint That Never Quite Took Off

Tau only joined Qatar SC in January after leaving Egyptian giants Al Ahly.

Unfortunately, his time there didn’t pan out as planned.

He made just 10 appearances for the club—most of them hampered by injuries—and never managed to get on the scoresheet.

That said, he still made an impact by contributing four assists in a short span.

His exit was part of a broader clear-out at the club.

Head coach Mehdi Nafti was also shown the door along with several other players, including Ben Malango, Javi Martinez, Badr Benoun, Carlinhos Vinicius, and Ahmed Abdelkader—who returns to Al Ahly after his loan.

Could Zamalek Be His Next Stop?

Speculation around Tau’s next move is already heating up.

According to a report from Soccer-Laduma, Tau is now in advanced talks with Egyptian club Zamalek.

Interestingly, Zamalek had previously shown strong interest in Tau before his move to Qatar, and now it looks like the transfer might finally be materializing.

North African publication Dostor also weighed in, claiming that negotiations between Tau and the Cairo-based club are moving quickly.

If a deal is struck, it would be a huge move—especially considering the history between Zamalek and Al Ahly, Tau’s former club.

Local Clubs Are Watching Too

While the Zamalek talks are making waves, Tau’s name has also been linked with several top clubs in the South African Premier Soccer League.

Heavyweights like Orlando Pirates and Kaizer Chiefs are reportedly interested in bringing the Bafana Bafana forward back to familiar territory.

A return to the PSL could be a welcome homecoming for a player who’s long been admired locally.

Should Tau Stay Abroad or Come Back Home?

That’s the big question. Would a move to Zamalek be the smart choice for Tau’s career right now? Or is it time for him to come back to the PSL and re-establish himself at home? Fans are split, and the debate is growing louder by the day.

We’d love to hear what you think. Should Percy Tau chase another shot in Egypt, or is a return to South African football the better option at this stage in his career?
