If you thought Peaky Blinders had wrapped up for good, think again.
Just when fans were settling into the idea that the movie The Immortal Man might be the gang’s final outing, news has surfaced that the BBC is officially reviving the hit drama for another series. And yes—filming is set to kick off this summer.
According to The Sun, the upcoming season will jump ahead to the 1950s, following the timeline of the new film.
After wrapping up in the 1930s with Season 6 and revisiting the war years in the movie, the next chapter will throw viewers into a grittier era, where a whole new wave of crime and chaos awaits.
Enter the Teddy Boys and the Kray Twins Era
The fresh storyline is expected to dive deep into the 1950s—a decade marked by rebellious Teddy Boy gangs and the notorious rise of Ronnie and Reggie Kray in London.
The Teddy Boys, known for their Edwardian-style fashion and street violence, often armed themselves with flick knives and knuckle dusters.
They were a serious concern for the police back in the day.
At the same time, the Kray twins began building their criminal empire.
By the late ’50s and into the ’60s, they had London’s underworld in a vice grip—running protection rackets and mingling with celebrities, all while using brutal tactics that made headlines across Britain.
It’s a dangerous and explosive era for the Peaky Blinders universe to explore—and fans can expect plenty of drama.
From Final Farewell to New Beginnings
Originally, the plan was for Peaky Blinders to end with Season 6, followed by a film to tie everything up.
But according to a production insider, series creator Steven Knight just couldn’t walk away from the story.
“Steven had always teased that he wasn’t quite finished,” the source shared.
“Now the BBC has officially greenlit the next chapter, and pre-production is already underway. Fans will be thrilled.”
Filming is currently set to begin in September. As usual, the new series will air on BBC One in the UK and then roll out globally on Netflix—just like the film.
Will Cillian Murphy Return?
Though there’s no official confirmation yet, fans are hopeful that Cillian Murphy will reprise his iconic role as Thomas Shelby.
This time, though, it’s expected he’d take on more of a mentor role, possibly guiding a new generation of gangsters.
It would mirror the dynamic once held by the late Helen McCrory’s character, Polly Gray—a strong presence and guiding force within the Shelby family.
The potential shift in leadership could be a fascinating new layer for the story.
The Peaky Legacy Lives On
From its debut in 2013 through to its supposed finale in 2022, Peaky Blinders built a legacy—tracking the Shelby family’s rise through the 1920s and ’30s.
Now, with the revival set to leap into one of the most volatile decades in British crime history, the franchise is poised to expand even further.
Steven Knight recently teased: “The world of Peaky will continue.” And with that, it’s clear the Shelby story isn’t over—it’s just entering a bold new chapter.
