…By Jack Sylva for TDPel Media. The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has strongly criticized Governor Hyacinth Alia of Benue State for his recent directive to terminate the employment of certain civil servants in the state.
In a press conference addressed by the PDP State Working Committee and its acting chairman, Isaac Mffo, the party described the governor’s directive as unlawful, insensitive, and callous.
Governor Alia’s decision to sack civil servants and revert appointments.
Governor Alia had issued a statement through his spokesman, Tersoo Kula, announcing the termination of employment for a specific category of civil servants hired during the previous administration led by Governor Samuel Ortom.
Additionally, the governor ordered civil servants and individuals appointed as Permanent Secretaries by the previous administration from January 2023 onwards to return to their previous positions immediately.
The directive also nullified all recent appointments made in the State Civil Service from May 2022 to the present, as well as postings and transfers made from October 2022 onwards.
PDP argues against the deprivation of lawfully recruited civil servants.
The PDP strongly objected to Governor Alia’s decision, emphasizing that the affected civil servants were lawfully recruited into the state workforce.
The party criticized the governor for disregarding the welfare and means of survival of these individuals while depriving them of their entitlements.
Mffo, speaking on behalf of the PDP, stated, “The directive by Governor Alia quashed all appointments, promotions, and postings made in the state civil service from May 2022 until the time of his assuming office.
But of particular concern to us as the leading opposition in the state is the directive that nullifies all recent appointments made by the outgone administration from May 2022 to date.”
PDP highlights the insensitivity of the governor’s action.
The PDP further highlighted the insensitivity of Governor Alia’s decision, particularly in light of the hardships endured by Nigerians under the previous administration’s mismanagement of the economy and the prevailing insecurity that threatened the country’s sovereignty.
Mffo commented, “The insensitivity in the Benue State Governor’s action becomes more glaring when viewed against the backdrop of the untold hardship which Nigerians were subjected to under the recently expired Buhari regime in the forms of catastrophic economic mismanagement and such insecurity as directly threatened the country’s sovereignty.”
