PDP Defeats APC In Kaduna Rescheduled LG Poll

Francis Zimbo of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) defeated John Hassan of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the postponed chairmanship election in Zango Kataf LGA of Kaduna State, Northern Nigeria, on Saturday.

Zimbo received 28,771 votes to overcome Hassan’s 19,509 votes, according to the returning officer, Nuhu Garba, who announced the results on Sunday.

“Mr. Francis Zimbo of the PDP, having satisfied the conditions of the law and received the largest number of votes, is hereby proclaimed the election winner and returned elected,” Garba added.

The PDP also won nine out of the 11 councillorship seats leaving the remaining two for the APC.

Owing to security concerns, elections were cancelled in some LGAs of the state on September 4.

Last Wednesday, Governor of Kaduna State, Nasir el-Rufai, said he will appoint sole administrators for the LGAs if the election does not take place.

El-Rufai earlier said, “I would like to observe that if elections do not take place as scheduled on this date, we will have no option than to appoint administrators to manage these local governments for the next three years.

“So it is in the interest of everybody to allow elections to take place, otherwise I will appoint people to manage those local governments.”
