Patsy Palmer, the beloved EastEnders actress, has shared an emotional update with her fans as the fires continue to wreak havoc in her hometown of Malibu.
From London, where she’s working, she revealed that while her house has miraculously survived, she feels helpless witnessing the destruction from afar.
The actress, who moved to Malibu with her family in 2014, took to Instagram to confirm that her home was still standing amidst the chaos and offered support to those affected by the fires.
The Pain of Watching from Afar
“I’ve just woken up after having the first proper night’s sleep in quite a few nights, obviously because of the fires in California where I live,” Patsy wrote.
“I am here in London working, feeling pretty helpless. All I can do from here is share the resources of everyone working tirelessly to help and give whatever people need.”
She urged everyone affected to find moments of peace, emphasizing the importance of deep breathing and meditation in these trying times.
“What is gone is gone, the future is just a dream—it’s not real,” she added.
“What we all have right now is this time, this present moment.”
Sentimental Loss and Gratefulness Amid the Chaos
Reflecting on the devastation, Patsy shared that she had recently cleared out her garage, salvaging precious keepsakes like photos and memories, just before the fires worsened.
“I felt an overwhelming sadness that we nearly lost these things,” she said.
“We had the most grateful Christmas to date, enjoying being together, still in our home.
But a week later, it all changed.”
The actress admitted that this experience reminded her of the 2018 fires in Malibu when her family lost their rental home and was displaced for three months.
She explained that while the current situation is traumatic, it also showed her the strength of community, something she had witnessed firsthand during those previous disasters.
Sending Strength and Resources to Those Affected
Patsy, who has deep ties to the UK and has worked hard to build a new life in Malibu, also expressed how surreal it is to be so far away while her community in California faces such devastation.
“My family and pets are safe, and I know they will be doing what they can to help,” she shared.
“It’s surreal as you drive 20 minutes up the road, and it’s like nothing is happening.
The sun is shining, and life is going on.”
Though the actress has been in London for work, she continues to offer emotional support, sending out healing energy and offering any resources she can. “Stay safe, everyone.
I’m helpless here, but I’m praying and crying as I write this.
My heart is broken for what’s happening in my hometown,” she said.
Living the Dream in Malibu
Despite the trauma, Patsy remains grateful for the life she has built in Malibu with her husband, Richard, and their three children.
Reflecting on the lifestyle she now enjoys, the actress revealed in a podcast last year that she would “never live in the UK again.”
She described her life by the ocean as a dream, waking up every day to the view of the ocean and feeling blessed.
“Malibu is its own little place,” she said. “I pinch myself every morning.”
The Unprecedented Fires in Los Angeles
As wildfires continue to burn across California, particularly in areas like Malibu, Hollywood, and Studio City, the scale of the disaster has left many residents and celebrities devastated.
Thousands have been forced to evacuate, and numerous homes have been lost, including those of celebrities such as Mandy Moore, Cary Elwes, and Billy Crystal.
The devastation spans iconic Southern California real estate from Malibu to Santa Monica, leaving communities in shock.
The National Guard has been deployed, and firefighters are working tirelessly to manage the ever-growing blaze.
Patsy’s message, however, remains one of hope: “Sending all of my energy to everyone today.
May you be blessed with healing love and understanding in this crazy time.”
