Pastor, 31, arrested for allegedly raping 16-year-old girl

South African Police Service (SAPS) spokesperson Brigadier Tembinkosi Kinana said the pastor was arrested in Sugarbush, Mount Ayliff at midday on Saturday.

“The information suggests that the victim was at home with young children during the day, when the alleged Pastor of the local church arrived asking for the parents.

“The report further indicates that he left and returned again in the evening and stayed until late when other children had gone to sleep,” said Kinana.

The pastor allegedly raped the 16-year-old girl in September 2021 after the other children in the home went to bed.

The victim did not report the matter to at the time.

According to the police, the suspect’s arrest is the result of the ongoing investigation. He is expected to appear before the Mount Ayliff Magistrate’s Court on Monday, 25 April on rape charges.

“The Provincial Commissioner, Lieutenant General Nomthetheleli Mene has hailed the sterling work and commitment of the Police in Mount Ayliff, for their unwavering determination to eliminate the culture of Gender Based Violence in the Alfred Nzo District,” said the police spokesperson.
