Christopher Bell, a 45-year-old resident of Coltman Street, Hull, has admitted responsibility for a fatal dog attack involving his XL Bully.

Appearing at Newcastle Crown Court, Bell pleaded guilty to owning a dangerously out-of-control dog that caused death.

The incident took place on October 3 last year in Shiney Row, Sunderland, when Bell’s dog, Titan, mauled 54-year-old Ian Langley.

Tragically, Langley succumbed to his injuries shortly after being rushed to the hospital.

The Attack That Shocked a Community

On the evening of the attack, Ian Langley, affectionately known by locals as “Scouse,” was walking his Patterdale terrier puppy, Bow, along his usual route near Maple Terrace.

Witnesses recalled how Titan, a tan and white XL Bully, bolted from Bell’s home and charged at Langley and his dog.

While Bow managed to escape unharmed and was later cared for by a neighbor, Langley was left with life-threatening injuries.

Despite emergency medical intervention, he passed away shortly after arriving at the hospital.

Immediate Police Action

The attack prompted swift action from armed police, who shot Titan at the scene to ensure public safety.

Authorities also removed another XL Bully from the property as a precaution.

The decision to euthanize Titan underscored the perceived danger the dog posed to residents in the area.

Sentencing and Legal Proceedings

Bell has been granted conditional bail ahead of his sentencing, scheduled for January 23 next year.

Judge Robert Adams refrained from commenting on the potential punishment but emphasized that all sentencing options remain on the table.

Ian Langley, originally from Liverpool, was a beloved figure in Shiney Row.

A neighbor and friend, Michael Kennedy, described him as a “lovable rogue” and a gentle soul who never sought trouble.

Kennedy noted that Langley’s small stature left him vulnerable during the attack, making the incident even more harrowing for those who knew him.
