Owen Farrell Returns to Saracens in London on Long-Term Deal Following Release from Racing 92

After a whirlwind few months in France, Owen Farrell is heading back to where it all began.

The England legend is making an emotional return to Saracens, after the club struck a deal with Racing 92 to bring him home.

A Transfer Deal That Opens New Doors

Saracens have agreed to pay the French club €200,000 (around £170,000) to release Farrell from his current contract.

Now 33, Farrell isn’t just returning to play — he’s signed a five-year contract that also includes coaching responsibilities.

It’s a bold move, and one that many fans are seeing as both a homecoming and a new chapter in his career.

He still owns a house close to the Saracens training ground, making the transition all the more seamless.

And while Farrell previously ruled himself out of England selection, his return could very well reopen that door — especially with his leadership and experience still in high demand.

Why Saracens Moved Fast

Saracens head coach Mark McCall didn’t mince words when explaining why the club moved quickly to secure Farrell’s return.

A long-term injury to Alex Lozowski left the team thin in the No.10 position.

With utility back Alex Goode now retired and no seasoned fly-half options left in the squad, McCall knew he had to act fast.

“We think we’re a bit vulnerable at 10, to be honest,” McCall said.

“Alex [Lozowski] being out meant we could use the injury dispensation clause.

But the replacement has to play the same position and can’t cost more.”

That combination of opportunity and need opened the door — and Farrell was the perfect fit.

More Than a Player – A Mentor to the Next Generation

Farrell’s return isn’t just about adding depth to the squad. It’s about mentoring the next generation.

McCall highlighted how valuable Farrell’s leadership and rugby brain will be, especially to young fly-half Louie Johnson.

“Owen’s one of the best in the world when it comes to decision-making on the pitch,” McCall said. “He already talks with Louie every month.

He’s always happy to share knowledge. That’s what makes him so important to us — both now and in the long run.”

England Recall on the Horizon?

Farrell’s return has sparked chatter about a possible England comeback.

Although he previously stepped away from international duty, this move changes the landscape.

His presence in England, combined with the form he’s shown, could tempt selectors — particularly if injuries arise or if his club performances turn heads.

He’s not part of the British and Irish Lions squad heading to Australia, but he’s still involved in the international game.

Next week, he’ll be in Dublin working as a pundit for Sky Sports, covering the Lions’ opener against Argentina.

Back Where He Belongs

This isn’t just a transfer. For Farrell, it’s a full-circle moment.

After more than 200 games and multiple Premiership titles with Saracens, he’s returning to the club he helped shape — and where he still has so much more to give.

And for Saracens fans, it’s not just about seeing their captain back in black.

It’s about hope, rebuilding, and nurturing the future — with one of England’s greatest rugby minds leading the way.
