Liam Payne, known for his time with One Direction, faced significant changes just days before his tragic passing.
Reports reveal that the 31-year-old singer had initiated the process of stepping back from his solo music career.
On the same day he died, he submitted documents to resign as a director from four companies through which he managed his music income.
The Fall
On October 16, Payne fell from a hotel balcony in Buenos Aires, Argentina, suffering injuries that ultimately proved fatal.
According to newly released documents from Companies House, he filed papers to relinquish his directorships on that very day.
The singer’s company, Hampton Music Ltd, was valued at £17,300 last year.
His other company, Hampton Records Ltd, which boasted a worth of £300,000 in 2022, had plummeted to just under £75,000.
Additionally, his live music entity, Long Play Touring LLP, saw a dramatic drop in value from about £135,000 to just £17,000 within the same timeframe.
Hampton Publishing Ltd also reported a meager valuation of only £729.
Visa Woes
A close friend disclosed that Payne’s stay in Argentina was prolonged due to complications with his visa application to the United States, which had initially been rejected because of his past struggles with substance abuse.
He had traveled to Buenos Aires with the intention of renewing his ‘extraordinary achievement’ visa, which would enable him to establish a new life in Florida with his girlfriend, Kate Cassidy.
Unfortunately, his application faced setbacks because he admitted to issues with alcohol and drug use, necessitating psychiatric and medical evaluations.
Although these tests ultimately cleared him, and he was expected to have his passport stamped with the renewed visa just two days after his tragic fall, fate had other plans.
Sober and Hopeful
A friend revealed that Payne had received a clean bill of health from both his medical and psychiatric evaluations, emphasizing that he was “100 percent sober” at the time.
The friend expressed disbelief, stating, “When I last spoke to Liam, I had no idea he was going to do anything stupid.”
He had planned to meet at the embassy to collect his visa just a day after his death.
Liam arrived in Argentina with Kate on October 1, just in time for Niall Horan’s concert at the Movistar Arena.
Initially, the couple stayed at a luxurious Airbnb but had to vacate when their visa application delay led to the expiration of their booking.
Payne subsequently checked into the boutique CasaSur Hotel, while Cassidy returned home to Miami on October 12.
Plans for the Future
Just before his untimely demise, Payne was reportedly engaged in discussions about a potential tour in 2025.
However, friends expressed their concerns about his ability to handle the demands of touring after his recent management split six months prior.
One source noted the unease among his friends about his plans, stating, “When it emerged that Liam had been talking to new people about a series of dates, there was a great deal of unease among his friends that this was a bad idea.”
Tragically, the musician’s promising future and aspirations were cut short, leaving fans and loved ones heartbroken.
