South Africa’s Lloyd Harris beat Japan’s Yoshihito Nishioka in the third round of the Miami Open on Monday.

Harris beat his 96th-ranked opponent 7-6 (7/5), 4-6, 7-5 in a match which lasted two hours and 34 minutes.

Harris started the tournament ranked 44th in the world, but thanks to his progression to Round 4 is now ranked 39th in the live rankings.

Lloyd Harris reached his first ever Masters Round of 16

The win saw the 25-year-old South African reach the Round of 16 at a Masters 1000 event for the first time in his career.

It has been an inconsistent 2022 for Harris who entered the Miami Open with a 2-7 ATP win-loss record.

However, as each match – and victory passes – he seems to be finding the form that saw him reach the quarter-finals at last year’s US Open in New York..

In the Round of 16, Harris will face Poland’s defending champion and eighth seed Hubert Hurkacz who beat 29th seeded Russian Aslan Karatsev 7-5, 4-6, 6-3.
