The National Youth Council of Nigeria, Anambra State Chapter has flagged off campaign against crystal methamphetamine popularly known as “Mkpurummiri” and other harmful substances in the state.

The campaign which took place in Awka, is aimed at publicizing the dangers of hard drugs to both physical and mental health, especially as it concerns the youths.

According to research, crystal meth is a highly addictive drug and strong stimulant that is mainly used as a recreational drug.

These hard drugs can come in the form of pills, powders, or chunky crystals called ice, and are mostly used by young adults.

Speaking shortly after the campaign, the Anambra State Chairman of the NYCN, Comrade Samuel Egwuatu said that methamphetamine is a harmful substance that has become a household name among youths, leading to crimes and other forms of social vices.

He regretted that presently, the use of the drugs among youths is causing havoc in many communities in the State, and warned youths to say no to drug abuse.

For the President of Drug Free Community Development Service (CDS) in the Anambra State National Youths Service Corps, Mr. Johnbosco Eluagu, the sensitization was aimed at circulating information to the masses on the dangerous effects of hard drugs and its effects to the body system, even as the State Secretary of  the National Youth Council of Nigeria, Anambra State Chapter, Comrade Ikechukwu Onuorah opined that enlightenment on the effects of drug abuse should be included in the school curriculums to help students understand the negative effects of substance abuse.

The campaign which kicked off from the ABS corporate Headquarters Awka, through Aroma Junction, Zik Avenue, made a stopover at Eke Awka Market, Unizik junction and terminated at Regina Caeli bus stop Awka.
