…By Larry John for TDPel Media. The actress, Adunni Ade, has broken her silence regarding reports claiming that she owed the late actor, Murphy Afolabi, a sum of N250,000.
The issue was raised by the burial committee during the eighth-day fidau prayer held in Murphy’s honor, where they publicly called out Adunni Ade, urging her to repay the money so that it could be given to the late actor’s children.
Adunni Ade addressed the allegations in a statement posted on her official social media account on Tuesday.
She explained the circumstances that led to Murphy Afolabi giving her the money, which she eventually returned after facing unexpected challenges due to the death of a loved one.
To support her statement, she shared a screenshot as proof of the payment she made to Murphy Afolabi in October 2021, prior to his untimely passing.
In her statement, Adunni Ade recounted the events that transpired.
In July 2021, Murphy Afolabi approached her, requesting her services for a movie production.
He explained that it was a self-funded project, and he couldn’t afford her professional fee, but he sought her moral support.
Adunni Ade inquired about the number of scenes and duration she would be required on set, to which Murphy Afolabi indicated that she would participate in 10 scenes for a day.
As a form of compensation, he offered to cover her fuel expenses and paid her N150,000 on July 2, 2021.
Unfortunately, on July 11, 2021, shortly before the production was set to commence, Adunni Ade experienced the loss of her younger brother.
She contacted Murphy Afolabi a few days later, requesting his bank account details to initiate a refund as she had to travel to the United States for her brother’s funeral.
However, Murphy Afolabi suggested that she hold on to the money while he decided whether to reschedule the shoot or arrange for another project.
On October 8, 2021, Murphy Afolabi contacted Adunni Ade again, expressing his intention to start a new project soon and requesting her for four days in a lead role, with the same compensation of N150,000.
Adunni Ade respectfully declined and promptly refunded the full amount of N150,000 by transferring it to his bank account on the same day.
She provided evidence of both payments to support her claims.
Murphy Afolabi tragically passed away on May 14, 2023, after a fall in his bathroom at his Ikorodu residence.
He was laid to rest on May 15 in his hometown.
In a separate incident, Adunni Ade stirred controversy in the Yoruba movie industry during the lead-up to the 2023 presidential election.
She claimed that stakeholders in the industry were paid N90,000 to endorse Bola Tinubu.
This statement caused dissatisfaction among industry stakeholders.
Furthermore, she alleged that her life was threatened by Koko Zaria, who is known as the right-hand man of Lagos transport union leader Musiliu Akinsanya, also known as MC Oluomo.
