NITEL workers killed as telecom mast collapses in Benue

On Wednesday, January 19, two Nigeria Communications Limited personnel were killed when a communications tower collapsed in the Kastina-Ala Local Government Area of Benue State. (NITEL).

At NITEL’s Takum crossroads headquarters in Kastina-Ala, there were seven staffers atop the pole. They were apparently attempting to disassemble the mast when it collapsed. The Chairman of Kastina-Ala LGA, Alfred Atera, confirmed the incident, adding that five more individuals were taken to the hospital.

  He said;  “They had loosed one side of the mast when the other part collapsed. Two of them died instantly while five others were taken to the hospital.” Benue police command spokesperson, Catherine Anene also confirmed the incident. She said; “Two people died. Others are in the hospital.
