Nigerian Navy Intercepts Large Cannabis Sativa Shipment in Lagos Waters

In a significant operation, the Nigerian Navy, stationed at NNS BEECROFT, successfully intercepted a substantial consignment of cannabis sativa while it was being smuggled into Nigeria through the nation’s backwaters.

The estimated street value of the seized drug is over N200 million. The contraband, which was found in approximately 65 sacks, was confiscated from two different locations in Lagos.

This successful interception was made possible thanks to the utilization of Falcon Eye, a cutting-edge maritime awareness domain facility technology, which allowed navy officers to track the illicit consignment. The drug seizure took place in the areas of Lekki and Badagry.

Upon spotting the naval gunboats patrolling the areas, the suspected smugglers quickly fled the scene.

Commodore Kolawale Oguntuga, the Commander of the Nigerian Navy Ship (NNS) BEECROFT, issued a stern warning to those involved in such illegal activities, cautioning them to cease their actions or face legal consequences.

He highlighted that the Nigerian Navy, with the assistance of Falcon Eye, maintains continuous surveillance of the nation’s waters to ensure safety and security.

Beyond protecting trade routes, the navy’s duty also extends to safeguarding the nation’s integrity, as demonstrated by the successful seizure of this large drug consignment.
