Nigeria Signs MOU With International  Anti- Corruption Academy

Nigeria has signed a memorandum of understanding, with theInternational Anti-CorruptionAcademy on anti-Corruption and compliance at the ongoing ninth session of the Conference of the States Parties to the United Nations Convention against Corruption in Egypt.

Signing on behalf of Nigeria, the Chairman Independent Corrupt Practices and other related offences Commission, Mr Bolaji Owasanoye, said Corruption undermines the growth of any nation and can sometimes lead to what he termed underworld government, leading the formal government.

According to him, Corruption hinders the attainment of innovation driven economy which propels inequality amongst citizens thereby breeding insecurity and terrorism which in themselves can lead to internal displacement of citizens, denial of education opportunities for children among others.

He however said the problem of Corruption can be overcome with anti-Corruption network to remove inequality in countries to improve accountability and transparency especially if governments adopt robust information sharing and dialogue with the citizenry, citizens themselves supporting or challenging how monies budgeted for their communities are utilized.

Earlier, the Executive Secretary of International Anti-Corruption Academy, Mr Thomas Stelzer, said Corruption had continued to grow globally because many leaders lacked the courage to fight Corruption utilizing their best practices.
