The Federal Government through the Federal Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development has launched the National Egg Production (NEGPRO) Scheme in Kogi State.

Speaking at the inauguration in Lokoja, on Monday, the National Poultry Desk Officer in the Department of Animal and Husbandry Services of the ministry, Mrs Vivian Ibe, said the essence of the scheme was to strengthen egg production, its marketing and the utilisation capacity of poultry products in the country.

Ibe noted that the five-year programme was targeted at boosting economic development, income, livestock production and increasing job opportunities.

On his part, the Commissioner for Agriculture, Mr David Apeh, commended the Federal Government on the initiative.

Represented by the Permanent Secretary in the ministry, Mr Sani Abdulganiyu, he urged the farmers in the state to utilise the opportunity, noting that the project would upscale food production and consequently, improve the nation’s economy.
