Bill de Blasio, the former mayor of New York City, is returning to his alma mater to teach a course on public service.
De Blasio, 61, will become a professor in January 2023, nearly four decades after he graduated from New York University in 1984 with a major in metropolitan studies and an activity focus.
As a fellow, he will instruct a graduate course at the Robert F. Wagner Graduate School of Public Service.
The former mayor, who was unable to obtain a seat in Congress after turning over his position to Eric Adams, will begin working at the school in January and is ‘thrilled’ about the prospect.
In a joint statement with NYU on Monday, he said, “When I graduated from NYU in the 1980s, I never imagined a career that would lead me to City Hall and then back to my old university.” Now I get to assist others in the pursuit of their aspirations.
In July, de Blasio stated, “Public service is what I want to do, and it can take many forms: organizations and a variety of good causes.”

After losing the mayoral election to Eric Adams, de Blasio relocated to the affluent Brooklyn neighborhood of Park Slope.
Earlier last month, he was observed casually strolling around the streets of Manhattan while wearing a Brooklyn T-shirt.
He was sighted shortly after it was reported that the father of two would be teaching at the Institute of Politics at Harvard’s Kennedy School.
Last month, De Blasio tweeted that he was ecstatic to be lecturing at the prestigious college.
He stated, “I am EXTREMELY hopeful about the upcoming generation of leaders and activists.” “It will be an honor to share the insights I’ve gained from decades of public service.
As a fellow, he will instruct a graduate course on public service at the Robert F. Wagner Graduate School of Public Service in the spring.
“My primary message to them is that we CAN effect radical progressive change.” I know because I have experienced it.
De Blasio, who served as mayor from 2014 and 2021, will participate in “various discussions, activities, and programming” at the Institute of Politics at the Harvard Kennedy School.
He will also teach lectures at the Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health on leadership and public service.
According to The New York Times, De Blasio and his family will continue to reside in his adopted city of Brooklyn. However, it is unknown whether he relocated to Cambridge, Massachusetts for the duration of his employment at Harvard.
De Blasio was born in New York City, but he spent the majority of his childhood in Cambridge.
In a recent interview with the Times, he stated that it would be “nice” to spend some time in his hometown.
The profoundly unpopular Democrat accepted the position at Harvard after announcing in May that he would run for Congress and then withdrawing in July when it became evident he had no chance of winning.
Last month, after De Blasio announced the fellowship, Tucker Carlson mocked the appointment and stated that it was “to fund his marijuana habit.”

The progressive lawmaker has long been plagued by unsubstantiated web claims of regular marijuana use. He stated that he smoked as a teenager but has not done so since college. Despite his early opposition, he commended the legalization of marijuana in New York in 2021.
His wife, Chirlane McCray, has been vocal about her attempts to stop consuming marijuana through counseling, and his daughter, Chiara, has stated that she overused alcohol and marijuana when she was depressed.

Carlson mocked Harvard for hiring de Blasio, who, according to Carlson, “oversaw the resurrection of the bubonic plague in New York.”
Carlson stated, “You cannot claim that Bill de Blasio is ineffective. It only took him eight years to essentially ruin the nation’s largest city.
He continued, ‘It is quantifiable. De Blasio witnessed a 65% increase in homelessness. Substance-dependent homeless individuals. He assigned government bureaucrats to small company owners throughout the outbreak.
He compelled employees of private companies to receive the COVID vaccine and destroyed the lives of any who rebelled. You would therefore assume that Bill de Blasio would have a successful career as a homeless person after leaving office.
