Experimentation, fun, and glitter in a coronavirus-affected environment The Fall/Winter 2022 shows by Proenza Schouler and Christian Cowan kicked off New York Fashion Week on Friday.
Proenza Schouler toyed with shape in its collection, which was shown in an art gallery in Manhattan’s trendy East Village. Fitted waists were contrasted with free or gently rounded skirts.
The goal was to exaggerate and juxtapose different forms to respond to “this huge body fixation these days with social media and everyone exhibiting the body,” according to designer Lazaro Hernandez.
Model Bella Hadid wore an outfit featuring buttoned sleeves, accentuated shoulders, and a black velvet hooded top – giving off a Catwoman vibe.
“Experimentation and play are key, perhaps now more than ever,” Proenza said of its collection.
