Nigerians and communications stakeholders have been assured of a better and greater service in the communication sector.
This assurance was made at a two-day forum in Lagos, Nigeria’s commercial city organised by the Nigerian communications Commission with the theme “talk to the regulators”.
The Director Licensing and authorisation of National communications Commission, Muhammad Babajika described the forum as an avenue where people can look at the technical issues and try to resolve them.
“The talk to the regulator forum, is a deliberate attempt to engage stakeholders and licensee,” Mr.
“There are some requests that these licencee make which the responses to those requests are embedded in the terms and conditions of the license granted to them.
It is done in such a way that the licensees will be well educated through the documents they have so that they can play within the rules and regulations of the commission,” he said.
Speaking on why the forum was imperative, the executive Vice Chairman Nigerian communications commission, Professor Umar Danbatta said the forum is critical to the growth of the industry.
“These interactions are squarely within the five pillars of the commission’s Strategic Management Plan 2020-2024.
These are Regulatory, Excellence, Promote of Universal Broadband Access the development of digital Economy, facilitation of Market development and Strategic partnering.
He said through the interaction with the licencees, the Commission is able to gain valuable insight to enhance its Regulatory output and drive excellence in line with the five pillars of the commission’s strategic vision for the industry.
” We are very much aware that not all our licensees are doing as they ought to be doing.
Several licensees are struggling to pay their staff, many are unable to comply with basic licence obligations, while several are defaulting in the payment of their annual operating levies and the level of interconnection and other inter-licensee indebtedness is still unacceptably high,” he added.
Many licencees returned home satisfied with the speedy responses and assurance from the commission, after they aired their grievances at the forum .
