Navy Pier in Chicago Becomes the Scene of a Fatal Shooting, Resulting in Two Deaths and an Urgent Police Hunt for a Suspected Gunman

A chaotic scene unfolded at Chicago’s Navy Pier when a shooting led to the tragic deaths of two individuals.

Witnesses described moments of panic as people sought refuge in nearby bathrooms and cars amid the gunfire.

Discovering the Victims

Shortly after 1 PM on Tuesday, a security guard reported finding two men on the ground near a loading dock, surrounded by shell casings.

Paramedics rushed to the scene, where they discovered the two men, aged 47 and 51, suffering from critical injuries.

According to Larry Langford, a spokesperson for the Chicago Fire Department, both were transported to Northwestern Memorial Hospital, where they sadly succumbed to their injuries, as confirmed by Chicago Police Chief Jon Hein during a press conference.

Pursuit of a Suspect

Authorities have launched an investigation to track down a person of interest believed to be connected to the shooting.

This individual, described as a disgruntled former employee, allegedly discharged multiple rounds in a secluded area of the Navy Pier.

Scanner communications obtained by the Chicago Sun-Times revealed that police were on the lookout for a 36-year-old man wearing a white chef’s hat and jacket, along with black pants.

Reports indicated that he was spotted on video at 1:21 PM but may have changed into a black North Face sweater, white or beige pants, and a black beanie.

Background of the Suspect

Investigators now believe that the suspect was previously employed at one of the restaurants within the popular tourist location.

He had been terminated from his position on October 14 but still retained access to an administrative office.

Court documents revealed a troubling history, including a conviction for armed robbery in 2008, with a subsequent gun charge being dismissed in 2017.

Response and Investigation

In response to the incident, police in tactical gear flooded the area around 2 PM, while officials at Navy Pier advised everyone on-site to shelter in place until it was deemed safe to exit.

Tactical teams, equipped with bulletproof vests and rifles, were seen searching through dumpsters and entering nearby garages in their efforts to locate the suspect.

This is an evolving story, and updates will follow as more information becomes available.
