Several Saudi Pro League clubs are keeping a close eye on Liverpool this week, but not because they’re ready to pounce—at least, not yet.
They’re watching to see whether Mohamed Salah and head coach Arne Slot can patch things up after a very public fallout that left the Egyptian star frustrated and temporarily sidelined.
Liverpool believe the situation can be smoothed over, but the next couple of days are expected to be crucial as the two men hold more talks in an attempt to clear the air.
Liverpool Stand Firm on Their Position
Even with heavy speculation swirling around Salah’s future, Liverpool have been adamant behind the scenes: they do not want to sell him.
The 33-year-old signed a lucrative new deal—worth well over £400,000 a week—not long ago, and the club fully expect him to honour it.
They see the disagreement with Slot as a bump in the road, not a long-term fracture, and believe the relationship can be repaired.
Saudi Clubs Think Liverpool May Be Protecting Their Asset
Inside the Saudi Pro League, though, there’s a hint of scepticism.
Some officials think Liverpool might be publicly downplaying the situation simply to maintain Salah’s enormous transfer value.
Whether that’s true or not, clubs in the region are watching closely.
Speaking in Riyadh at the World Football Summit, Saudi Pro League chief executive Omar Mugharbel didn’t hide the league’s admiration for the Liverpool star.
“Mohamed Salah is welcome in the Saudi League,” he said, adding that it’s up to individual clubs to negotiate. “For sure Salah is one of them.”
Several Saudi Teams Ready If an Opportunity Opens
Should Liverpool show even the slightest openness to negotiate, Al Hilal, Al Qadisah and the state-backed Neom project are all believed to be ready to move.
Liverpool famously rejected a £150 million offer from Al Ittihad in 2023, and Saudi clubs remain determined that Salah is worth pursuing.
On the American side, MLS clubs San Diego and Chicago Fire are also admirers, though insiders admit the financial demands involved would likely push them out of realistic contention.
For now, everything hinges on whether the relationship between Slot and Salah stabilizes—or continues to unravel.
Steven Gerrard Weighs In on the Fallout
Former Liverpool captain Steven Gerrard has added his voice to the conversation, urging Salah to take a step back and reflect rather than act on emotion.
Speaking to TNT Sports, Gerrard offered a sympathetic but honest assessment:
“He needs to reverse a little bit. He needs to deal with that with the manager.
We’ve all had head loss as players. We’ve all done emotional things.”
Gerrard suggested Salah will probably look back with regret once things cool down, saying:
“Mo will go, ‘I shouldn’t have said that.
I was a bit emotional, I was a bit hasty.’”
A Tense Situation With Big Implications
For Liverpool, the next 48 hours could determine whether their star stays settled—or whether the saga becomes a transfer storm with global reach.
And for Saudi clubs waiting in the wings, every new development could open or close a door.
Either way, all eyes are now fixed on whatever comes out of the Salah–Slot talks behind closed doors.
