Mississippi Lt. Gov. Delbert Hosemann Collapses During Senate Session While Addressing Chamber in Jackson

In a startling moment that quickly gained attention, Mississippi Lt. Gov. Delbert Hosemann, 77, collapsed while standing at a podium in the state Senate.

The incident took place on Wednesday, during a regular session, and was captured on livestream before the video was quickly removed.

The footage shows Hosemann, who had been standing at the podium, briefly slouching before suddenly losing his balance and falling forward, collapsing to the ground.

Immediate Response and Public Concern

As the fall unfolded, gasps filled the room, and onlookers rushed to his aid.

A recess was promptly called as medical staff quickly attended to the fallen politician.

According to WLBT News, Hosemann was soon able to walk back to his office after receiving medical attention, putting the public’s worries at ease.

His office later released a statement saying, “Lt. Gov. Hosemann is doing well and in good spirits.

He appreciates all of the medical staff and is eager to return to work.”

Outpouring of Support from State Leaders

As news of the incident spread, several Mississippi state leaders took to social media to offer their support.

Mississippi Governor Tate Reeves shared his well wishes, saying, “First Lady Elee Reeves and I are praying for Lieutenant Governor Hosemann!” Republican Senator Cindy Hyde-Smith also expressed her prayers for Hosemann’s recovery, stating, “I’m praying for my dear friend, Delbert Hosemann.”

Attorney General Lynn Fitch added, “My friend Delbert Hosemann is tough as nails. Praying for a speedy recovery.”

Former state senator Chris McDaniel, who has had political disagreements with Hosemann in the past, offered a heartfelt message, saying, “Please say a prayer for his health and safety.

We all hope he is well.”

A Familiar Pattern of Falls Among Political Figures

This incident with Hosemann follows a similar one involving Kentucky Republican Senator Mitch McConnell, 82, who had fallen multiple times earlier this month on Capitol Hill.

McConnell, too, had been involved in a series of falls leading to injuries, including one where he tumbled down marble stairs and later fell again while heading into a senators-only lunch.

Hosemann’s Career and Leadership Role

Hosemann, who has been serving as Mississippi’s lieutenant governor since January 2020, is a well-known political figure in the state.

Prior to his current position, he served as the Mississippi Secretary of State.

His quick recovery after the fall has brought some comfort to his supporters, and many are hoping to see him back in action soon.
