Megan Barton Hanson Reveals How She Was Painted as the Villain on Love Island and Reflects on Her Experience in the UK Reality Show

Megan Barton Hanson recently opened up about her time on Love Island and how she was unfairly labeled as ‘the villain’ during her stint on the ITV2 reality show in 2018.

Reflecting on her time in the villa, Megan explained how the public perception of her was shaped by her fiery romance with Wes Nelson, which led to her being stereotyped as a “maneater” and a “crazy ex-stripper.”

These labels, she admitted, were far from who she truly is.

The Struggles with Her Image

Megan shared in a recent interview that she’s never watched her season of Love Island in its entirety.

She admitted that the villain persona she was cast into was something she didn’t want to relive.

“I know I was the villain,” Megan explained on the OFTV docuseries In Real Life.

She added that while her time on the show was memorable and fun, she wasn’t comfortable with how she was portrayed, saying, “I was definitely pigeonholed into being the maneater, the ex-stripper, the crazy one… But that’s absolutely not me!”

Embracing Sexual Empowerment

Through her experience on the show, Megan has become a strong advocate for women’s sexual empowerment.

Reflecting on the lack of open conversations about women’s pleasure when she was growing up, she expressed her desire to be a voice for others.

“I love being that voice for people, and I think because I was so open about it on Love Island, it opened the gateway for people to come to me and ask me for advice.”

Megan emphasized that it’s time for women to embrace their desires, saying, “Women are always portrayed as a mum, or a girlfriend, or a wife and I think it’s about time that women start putting themselves first.”

Coming Out and Mental Health

Megan also opened up about her decision to come out as bisexual, sharing that she initially kept it private but eventually decided to be open.

She said, “I thought, people will judge me anyway – to hell with it!”

Megan also highlighted the importance of mental health, calling it a journey that is as natural as discussing sex.

“Why aren’t we speaking about it?” she questioned, encouraging more conversations around topics that are crucial to human existence.

Love Island All Stars and Future Plans

Megan recently confirmed she would not be returning to the Love Island villa for the upcoming All Stars season.

She humorously shared that the male lineup didn’t appeal to her, saying, “There’s not one [person on the show] I would f***.”

The only person who could have potentially drawn her back was Ovie Soko, but since he turned down the offer, Megan decided to pull out too.

Despite her disinterest in the male contestants, Megan expressed excitement about the female cast, saying she was thrilled to see so many “hot girls” involved this year.

Looking ahead to 2025, Megan has big goals in mind: “Just big d**** and lots of money!” she boldly declared, hinting at a year of personal success and no regrets.
