Fast food giant McDonald’s is making a major shake-up to its menu, and vegetarians aren’t happy.
Starting next week, nearly all of the chain’s vegetarian offerings will vanish from restaurants across the country. Items like Veggie Dippers, Veggie Dipper Happy Meals, Spicy Veggie Wraps, and Vegetable Deluxe sandwiches will no longer be available.
The only plant-based item that will remain on the menu is the vegan McPlant Burger, which McDonald’s says continues to perform well with customers.
McDonald’s Explains the Decision
A spokesperson for McDonald’s explained the reasoning behind the move.
“We’re always listening to our customers to guide our menu,” they said.
“After reviewing feedback and analyzing sales data for the Veggie Dippers, it became clear that this product wasn’t connecting with vegetarian customers the way the McPlant does.”
The company added that the menu change will take effect from February 3, as they focus on creating “better vegetarian options that meet our high standards.”
While McPlant remains a popular choice, McDonald’s admits that removing other vegetarian options may disappoint some loyal customers.
Plans for New Offerings
Although most meat-free options are disappearing, McDonald’s is still experimenting with new menu items.
The Chicken Big Mac is set to return, and the company teased the upcoming launch of Pizza Mozzarella Dippers.
Meanwhile, the fast-food chain is keeping an eye on trends in other markets, aiming to introduce innovative vegetarian and vegan options that appeal to a wider audience.
Vegetarian Customers Voice Frustration
Reactions from the vegetarian community have been strong.
Jennifer Powell, 32, told The Sun, “As a non-meat eater, I’m genuinely shocked.
We are being treated like an afterthought. McDonald’s clearly no longer wants us as customers.”
Powell criticized the company for ignoring vegetarian fans despite its status as a mainstream, high-street brand.
“They clearly view us as second-class citizens,” she added.
“I will be rethinking my fast food choices moving forward.”
McDonald’s Launches Friends-Themed Promotion
Adding to the news, McDonald’s revealed a new collaboration with Warner Bros’ Friends franchise, launching on February 3.
Customers purchasing a Big Mac, nine McNuggets, or a McPlant meal will receive a collectible figurine featuring Ross, Chandler, Joey, Rachel, Phoebe, or Monica.
The promotion also includes a Central Perk-inspired makeover for McCafe cups, Joey-themed Chicken McNuggets Shareboxes featuring the New York skyline, and a new dip called Monica’s Marinara.
What Comes Next?
While McDonald’s is scaling back vegetarian options, the company seems to be doubling down on fan-favorite items and limited-edition promotions.
For vegetarians, the message is clear: the McPlant remains the star of the menu, but variety may be limited for now.
