Manqoba Mngqithi Sparks Major Interest From North Africa and the Middle East Following His Exit From Mamelodi Sundowns

Manqoba Mngqithi Sparks Major Interest From North Africa and the Middle East Following His Exit From Mamelodi Sundowns

Former Mamelodi Sundowns coach, Manqoba Mngqithi, may soon find himself following in the footsteps of Pitso Mosimane and Rulani Mokwena by making a big move abroad.

His agent, Mike Makaab, has confirmed significant interest from clubs in both North Africa and the Middle East.

However, the exact clubs in question have not been revealed just yet.

A Quiet Period After Sundowns Departure

Mngqithi has remained relatively low-key since his unexpected departure from Sundowns earlier this season.

Although his exit made waves, he hasn’t rushed into his next move, despite being linked with several local PSL clubs, including Golden Arrows and Richards Bay FC in the KwaZulu-Natal area.

Mngqithi, however, seems in no hurry to make a decision, as he waits for the right opportunity to come along.

Makaab has made it clear that Mngqithi’s future will depend on finding a project that aligns with his goals.

A Path Similar to Mosimane and Mokwena

If Mngqithi does decide to make the move to North Africa, it would mirror the decisions made by both Pitso Mosimane and Rulani Mokwena.

In 2020, Mosimane made a high-profile switch from Sundowns to Egyptian powerhouse Al Ahly.

Then, in 2024, Mokwena made his own leap to Wydad Athletic Club in Morocco.

Mngqithi’s potential move would be another example of the trend of Sundowns’ former coaches finding success abroad in some of Africa’s top football destinations.

Makaab Speaks About the Situation

Makaab shared that there has been substantial interest from clubs in both North Africa and the Middle East, but the decision will depend on the project that best suits Mngqithi.

He emphasized that it’s crucial for Mngqithi to find a place where he can truly invest in the club’s future and take on a role he can immerse himself in.

“Mngqithi was at Sundowns for 11 years, and during that time, there was always significant interest in him.

But what mattered most was that he was happy with the project, whether he was serving as head coach or assistant,” said Makaab.

What’s Next for Mngqithi?

The question now remains: will Mngqithi stay in the PSL, explore opportunities in North Africa, or head to the Middle East? Fans are eagerly waiting to see where his career will take him next.
