Man Tragically Killed in Road Rage Attack While Walking Near Roundabout in Oldham as Community Mourns Loss of Kind Teacher

On the evening of March 26th, 2025, a tragic incident occurred in Oldham, Greater Manchester, when Paul Bowles, a 50-year-old primary school teacher, was killed in what is believed to have been a road rage attack.

His death has left his community in shock and mourning, as tributes pour in for a man described as “kind, loving, and inspirational.”

A Teacher Who Inspired and Made a Difference

Paul Bowles was a dedicated teacher at St Anne’s Church of England Lydgate Primary School in Saddleworth.

He worked as a learning support assistant and was a cherished figure among the children, who affectionately called him ‘Mr Baubles’ during the Christmas season.

Known for his patience, humor, and warmth, Paul’s impact on his students was profound.

Parents have shared heartfelt messages, with many describing him as “the best, funniest, and kindest teacher” who had a lasting influence on their children’s lives.

Carly Mundy, one of the parents, wrote a touching tribute online, expressing hope that Paul knew just how much he had changed the lives of his students.

“We really hope he knew what a difference he made to our children,” she said.

A Romantic Gesture That Won Hearts

In 2005, Paul made headlines for a romantic and unforgettable gesture when he proposed to his wife, Angela, in a way that touched many hearts.

Angela, a former television actress known for roles in Coronation Street and Hollyoaks, was teaching a class when Paul surprised her by asking her young students to help him propose.

The children, aged five to seven, performed a special dance routine spelling out “Will you marry me?” and Paul followed it up by getting down on one knee.

Angela, overcome with emotion, said “Yes,” making the moment even more special for everyone involved.

The couple’s love story began in 1999 when Paul, then an actor, met Angela backstage at a play in Oldham.

They shared a deep connection that blossomed into a beautiful life together.

A Community in Grief

As the news of his death spread, it became clear just how deeply Paul was loved by his community.

Parents, friends, and colleagues have all shared their devastation, remembering him for his kindness and generosity.

One parent, Hannah Adams, wrote on Facebook that Paul was “the fun teacher who made them all smile, always kind, patient, and always there for the children.”

Her post echoed the sentiments of many, with countless others reflecting on how much Paul had meant to their children.

“He was irreplaceable,” said one parent, while another recalled his emotional speeches at school events. It’s clear that Paul’s legacy will live on in the hearts of all those who knew him.

The Tragic Incident and Investigation

The incident occurred on Broadway, near the Elk Mill roundabout in Chadderton, around 6:40 PM on Wednesday.

Witnesses reported a confrontation between two drivers, which escalated when one of the drivers, in a van, struck Paul with his vehicle before fleeing the scene.

Paramedics arrived promptly and attempted to revive Paul, but despite their best efforts, he passed away at the scene.

Greater Manchester police later confirmed that the driver involved in the attack had turned himself in and was arrested.

The suspect, Andrew Robson, 32, of Chadderton, has been charged with murder. He appeared before magistrates in Manchester the following day.

A Family’s Loss and Fond Remembrances

Paul’s family, including his wife Angela and their children, have been left heartbroken by the loss of such a beloved and cherished figure.

In a statement, they described him as “a kind, loving, family man and true gentleman who always put others before himself.”

His family also reflected on Paul’s intelligence, quick wit, and generous heart, emphasizing the deep love and admiration that all who knew him felt.

As the investigation continues, the community continues to mourn the loss of a teacher who gave so much to others and left a lasting imprint on everyone he encountered.
