The youngster was evacuated to the hospital in a severe condition. After spending two days in critical care at Newcastle’s Royal Victoria Infirmary, she passed away on Friday, September 30. James Chappell, Maya’s father, had previously posted a Facebook tribute to his “beautiful courageous young baby” who was “too wonderful for this world.”

Today at Teesside Crown Court, Michael Daymond was arraigned on charges related to the toddler’s murder. The 26-year-old defendant showed here via video connection from HMP Leeds jail and was sporting a grey sweater. On January 13, Judge Howard Crowson scheduled a hearing for a plea and trial preparation, with a provisional trial date set for March 13. Daymond was kept behind bars until his subsequent court date.

“It’s crucial you be candid with your counsel about anything you think could be significant,” the judge advised him. James, Maya’s father, previously posted the following on Facebook: “It pains my heart to be writing this but regrettably my beautiful courageous little child has gotten her wings.

She was too nice for this earth and as a reward she’s going to play in the stars.” “Maya Louise Chappell, you are my life, my earth, and my idol. I will always hold you in the highest regard and adore you with all of my heart. Sadly, baby daughter.
