After a period of limited playing time, Mamelodi Sundowns and midfielder Sammy Seabi have decided to go their separate ways.
This decision, made by mutual consent, sees Seabi moving on after struggling to secure a regular spot in the team’s lineup.
Seabi Now a Free Agent
Seabi’s departure was finalized just before the transfer window closed on September 20, 2024.
He was granted his clearance papers, making him a free agent who can now join any club, even outside of the official transfer period.
His future is wide open as he explores new opportunities following his exit from Sundowns.
A Tough Season for Seabi
In the previous Betway Premiership season, the 29-year-old midfielder managed only four appearances across all competitions.
He returned to Sundowns at the start of the 2023/24 season after completing a loan spell at Sekhukhune United.
However, despite his efforts, he couldn’t break into the first team on a consistent basis.
Loan Spells and Competition for a Spot
Seabi joined Sundowns in 2019 and, in an effort to gain more playing time, he spent time on loan with Moroka Swallows, Chippa United, and Sekhukhune United.
Back at Sundowns, he faced stiff competition from the likes of Teboho Mokoena, Bathusi Aubaas, Rivaldo Coetzee, Marcello Allende, and Sphelele Mkhulise for a place in the holding midfield position.
Clubs Interested in Signing Seabi
With Seabi now a free agent, several clubs have expressed interest in acquiring his services.
Polokwane City FC, Chippa United, and Magesi FC are reportedly keen to bring the midfielder on board.
According to his agent, Mike Makaab, Seabi is free to negotiate with any team following his settlement with Sundowns.
Chippa United and a Potential Return to Limpopo
Chippa United head coach Kwanele Kopo has confirmed that they are actively pursuing Seabi, praising him as one of the most talented midfielders in South African football.
A return to his former club, Polokwane City, is also a strong possibility.
Seabi previously played for the club, known as Rise and Shine, from 2016 to 2019.
Magesi FC, newly promoted from the Motsepe Foundation Championship, is another club eager to secure Seabi’s signature.
They see him as a valuable addition to their squad, bringing experience and stability as they look to make their mark in the Premiership.
What’s Next for Sammy Seabi?
With several clubs interested in his talent, it’s only a matter of time before Sammy Seabi finds a new home.
Whether he returns to Limpopo or takes on a new challenge elsewhere, his next move will be closely watched by South African football fans.
Seabi’s future is full of potential, and his next chapter is about to begin.
