Mamelodi Sundowns co-coach Rulani Mokwena gives update on return of defender Mosa Lebusa

Lebusa has been out of action with an injury since Sundowns’ 3-2 victory over Royal AM in November, but is slowly making his way back.

The former Ajax Cape Town defender recently told the Siya crew that he is back on the pitch in training and Mokwena has revealed that it will be a process before the experienced campaigner makes a return to the matchday squad.

Mamelodi Sundowns co-coach Rulani Mokwena has given an update on the return of defender Mosa Lebusa.

“He is not so far. The process of returning from injury is, one, getting the nod to get back to training and Mosa has already moved into that space. Once you move from the medical department, the biokineticists, you then move into a space where you can start working with the physical trainers.

“Once you start working with the physical trainers, the objective is to try to monitor your cognitive load. Once the physical trainers are happy with that, you get to a stage where there is a lot of strengthening work, injury prevention work, which is what Mosa is currently doing.

“That, to a certain extent, gives you the license to start team training. He is now taking part in certain parts of the training session. He has to now patiently progress and graduate into a space where he can be available for selection, which is the last stage of returning from injury. It’s also up to the player to see how he feels and how ready he feels he is.”

“We are excited to be having Mosa back. There was a moment where we had only two centre backs available in Brian Onyango and Rush (Rushine de Reuck). We never complained, we just kept going and kept working.”
