Mamelodi Sundowns have made another stellar addition to their squad, outpacing six other Betway Premiership clubs to sign one of the hottest prospects in South African football, Sechaba Gaseitsiwe.
The 17-year-old winger, who impressed everyone at the 2024 Engen Champ of Champs, has chosen to join the Chloorkop side, adding to the team’s growing list of talented young players.
Gaseitsiwe’s Impressive Journey
Just two weeks ago, reports revealed that multiple PSL clubs were keeping a close eye on the teenage prodigy following his standout performances at the Engen competition.
Gaseitsiwe not only showcased his raw talent but also earned the prestigious title of Forward of the Tournament.
His performances caught the attention of scouts from across the league, cementing his status as one of the brightest emerging talents.
Before signing with Sundowns, Gaseitsiwe had been playing for Galeshewe Stars, an amateur club from the Northern Cape, where he made a name for himself.
His potential was undeniable, and it wasn’t long before PSL giants took notice.
Transitioning to the DDC Team
For now, Gaseitsiwe will be honing his skills with Sundowns’ DStv Diski Challenge (DDC) side.
The club’s DDC team, which currently sits third on the table with 22 points after 10 games, offers a solid platform for up-and-coming players to showcase their talents.
Gaseitsiwe will be eager to impress the technical staff and work his way into the senior team.
Known for his dazzling dribbles and sharp footballing mind, Gaseitsiwe’s ability to outwit defenders and make exceptional passes sets him apart.
His proficiency in executing set pieces also makes him a valuable asset, and he’ll be hoping to continue developing these skills under Sundowns’ guidance.
Competition for Gaseitsiwe’s Signature
Sundowns had plenty of competition in securing Gaseitsiwe’s services, with six other PSL clubs expressing interest in the young star.
The list of clubs that vied for his signature included Cape Town City FC, Sekhukhune United, Kaizer Chiefs, TS Galaxy, Orlando Pirates, and Stellenbosch FC. Each of these teams recognized his immense potential and moved quickly to inquire about his availability.
Praise for Gaseitsiwe’s Development
Nduvho Munyai, from P Management, spoke highly of Gaseitsiwe’s roots at Galeshewe Stars, praising the club for its role in developing the player.
“He is a very special talent, one of the top players in his age group.
He comes from a good set-up at Galeshewe Stars, which has nurtured his football abilities,” said Munyai.
Gaseitsiwe’s journey reflects the solid foundation laid by his previous club, which helped shape him into a future star.
What’s Next for Sundowns?
With Sundowns continuing to push for the top spot in the DDC, the club is also setting its sights on Gaseitsiwe’s progression to the first team.
Sitting just one point behind log leaders Stellenbosch FC, Sundowns’ youth team will be looking to close the gap, and Gaseitsiwe’s future involvement in that push could be pivotal.
As he develops, the talented winger will aim to make his mark and secure his place among the senior squad.
